SD ROUNDUP: Advance, Dexter roll in first round of SCAA Tournament

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The Dexter Bearcats scored the first seven points, allowed one field goal in the first quarter and comfortably advanced to the semifinals of the Stoddard County Activities Association Tournament.

Dexter (12-5), which led by 24 at the half, went into the fourth quarter ahead by 31 and played with a running clock.

The Indians couldn't do much against Dexter's 6 foot, 4 inch forward Gabe Jackson.

Jackson led all scorers with 27 points, including 14 of Dexter's 20 points in the second quarter. He had 20 points in the first half before the Bearcat scoring started to balance out.

Dawson Kastin, who had Dexter's other six points in the second quarter, added 12 points after a scoreless first quarter. Eight different Bearcats ended up scoring.

Levi Woods led Puxico with 16 points. He had the Indians' only points in the first quarter with a 3 midway through.

Woods sank three more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and had 11 points in the final frame.

In doubling up the Indians, Dexter out-scored Puxico by at least nine points in each of the first three quarters. Both teams got 15 points during the running clock fourth.

Advance 80, Richland 46

Six players scored for the Hornets, and five of them were in double figures.

Advance (15-3) cruised into the semifinals of the Stoddard County Activities Association Tournament after dominating the middle quarters.

The top-sseded Hornets, who had a running clock in the fourth, were up five after the first and out-scored No. 8 Richland 44-18 over the next 16 minutes.

After easing up in the fourth, Dawson Mayo ultimately led Advance with 22 points.

Mayo had 10 in the first quarter and scored less and less in each subsequent frame.

Michael Hood and Preston Wuebker head hit two of Advance's five 3-pointers.

Hood, who sank both 3s in the second quarter, finished with 18 points and Wuebker got 14.

Armani Vermillion and Carson Miles both had 11.

No Hornet had more than two field goals in the fourth quarter after Advance entered it with a 31-point lead.

Clayton Harriel led the Rebels (2-11) with 21 points. He had eight in the first quarrter and nine in the fourth.

Hunter walker and Josh thornton both had 11 and four players scored for Richland.

Walker had eight of the Rebels' 10 points in the second quarter after he hit a pair of 3s. Thornton got nine of his 11 in the second half, including five of the team's eight points in the third.

Sikeston 54, Perryville 17

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Larysa McClellon recorded a game-high 16 points as the Bulldogs crushed the Pirates.

Tyeshia Mitchell added 15 points for Sikeston (6-10), which held the Pirates to single digits in each quarter. The score was 28-12 at halftime before the Bulldogs outscored the guests by 21 points on their way to victory.

Alyssa Stortz had six points to pace Perryville (5-12).

Larysa McClellon posted 16 points and Tyeshia Mitchell followed with 15 points to lead Sikeston (6-10) to victory. The Bulldogs travel to Dexter on Thursday for a SEMO Conference battle.

HILLSBORO, Mo. -- The third-seeded Bravettes suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to the sixth-seeded Jaguars in the opening round of the 36th Annual Hillsboro Invitational Tournament.

Johneisha Daniel led SCC with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Scott County Central (9-7) will face seventh-seeded St. Louis Homeschool Patriettes in a consolation semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Sam Stuckmeyer scored 17 points to lead Seckman (4-9), who will face second-seeded Ritenour in a semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Oran 62, Chaffee 22

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Sophomore Leah Cauble once again had another strong performance with a game-high 30 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Eagles defeated the Red Devils for the third time this season in the lopsided conference road rout.

Brianna Stause recorded 10 points, seven steals and four assists for Oran (16-1, 3-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference), which soared to a 31-point advantage at the intermission as the Red Devils were held to single digits each frame and were scoreless in the final frame. Jessie Long tallied six rebounds and four steals to go along with her seven points for the Eagles.

Kylie Wilhite had eight points to pace Chaffee (9-7, 2-1). The Red Devils travel to Ste. Genevieve, Mo., today to take on Valle Catholic in a game that was originally supposed to have been played on January 5 but was postponed due to winter weather.

Oran has a chance to notch its fourth regular-season conference victory on Thursday when the Eagles visit Benton to face Kelly.
