Sikeston, Dexter, NMCC wrestling teams sending several to state meet

The Sikeston, Dexter and the New Madrid County Central wrestling teams each took fifth place in their respective districts, but each team will be sending numerous wrestlers to the state tournament this weekend.

Sikeston will be sending seven to the Class 3 state meet, Dexter qualified six for the Class 2 tournament and NMCC sent five through to the Class 1 meet after Saturday's district final.

Josh Stinnett made his individual district championship match and took second for Sikeston in the 182-pound weight class.

Josh Rishton (106) won third. David Valdez (120), Justus Faulkner (145), Luke Blanton (160), Trent Elliott (170) and Zach Watkins (285) all took fourth.

"Very proud of our team and their efforts in the district tournament," Sikeston coach Chris Lowe said. "We battled in every match in a very tough district."

Dexter's Travis Walder fell in the 106-pound title match for second place during the Class 2, District 1 tournament. Seth Harris (113), Jett Featherson (182) and Colten Gibson (195) each won third while Dawson Jones (120) and Matthew Stone (126) finished fourth for the Bearcats

New Madrid County Central's Cody Babb (195) and Brian Mickle (220) each took second during the Class 1, District 1 tournament. Jacob Wicker (152) and Herman Jackson (182) each took third while Andrew Thomas (285) finished fourth for the Eagles as well.

The top four district finishers in each weight class qualified for state.
