Investigation continues after teen accidentally shoots self
SIKESTON -- An investigation continues after a teenager accidentally shot himself.
The Sikeston Department of Public Safety reported at 5:41 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to Missouri Delta Medical Center in reference to a 14-year-old being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.
"The juvenile initially reported that he was playing basketball at Lincoln Park when he was shot," said Sgt. Jon Broom, public information officer with Sikeston DPS.
Officers investigated the scene. However, Broom said, it was later determined by detectives that the juvenile had accidentally shot himself when he sat down in a vehicle he was riding in at the park.
The Scott County Juvenile Office was notified.
