SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston girls soccer blanked by Jackson, Portageville baseball crushes Hayti

JACKSON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Bulldogs girls soccer team were held scoreless in their season-opening, 3-0 loss to the Jackson Indians Monday night on the road.

Lauren Welker recorded two goals for Jackson (1-0) while Natalie Miller had the other goal. Randa Norman provided two assists for the Indians while Emily Hermann and Sam Schnicker combined for three saves in the post.

Sikeston (0-1) will be back in action on Thursday in the opening round of the Noon Optimist Club Tournament at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau, Mo, where the Bulldogs will face St. Vincent at 5:30 p.m.

Kelly 1, Perryville 0 (OT)

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Hawks extended their winning streak to four games with the overtime victory over the Pirates .

Hailey Noon netted the lone goal of the game in overtime with 1:45 left off an assist from Emily Bolen to get the win for Kelly, which improved to 4-0. The Hawks continued their winning ways following a weekend championship of their inaugural round-robin tournament.

The Pirates fell to 0-1 with the season-opening loss.

Breeana Maronay and Marissa Worth combined for three saves in the post.

Kelly hosts Cape Central on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Portageville 31, Hayti 1

HAYTI, Mo. -- Bub Lance hit two doubles and batted in five runs as the Bulldogs obliterated the Indians in the lopsided three-inning romp.

Jared Crafton pitched two innings to get the win on the mound for Portageville (2-0). He allowed one earned run on one hit and tallied four strikeouts with three walked batters.

Hunter Gates recorded a triple and three RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Austin Thomas threw 1/3 of an inning to suffer the loss for Hayti (0-1). He gave up 12 runs (two earned) on six hits with one walk and no strikeouts.

Portageville travels to Bernie on Friday while Hayti visits Campbell today.

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Carson Aycock blasted a three-run home run to lead the Eagles to victory over the Panthers.

Coby Hubbert was the winning pitcher for East Prairie (2-1). He threw six innings and gave up no runs on one hit with 11 strikeouts and four walks. Harrison Moore threw the final inning to get the save for the Eagles.

Lane Baremore suffered the loss on the mound. He lasted 3 2/3 innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Baremore also smacked a two-run home run in the final inning to score the lone runs for Meadow Heights (1-2).

East Prairie is scheduled to host Sikeston on Thursday.

Caruthersville 9, Charleston 1

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Ajay Sagar had a double as the Blue Jays were unable to stop a solid fourth-inning performance by the Tigers in the loss on the road.

Brandon O'Connor pitched four innings to suffer the loss for Charleston (1-2). He gave up nine earned runs on six hits, struck out four and walked three.

Taylor Moses lasted six innings to take the win for Caruthersville (1-0). He allowed one earned run on two hits and recorded five strikeouts with no walks. Landon Hampton threw the final inning and had two strikeouts to get the save.

Hampton also doubled at the plate for the Tigers, who got four RBIs from Blake Irions and Seth Faulkner with two apiece.

Charleston will be back on the road on Wednesday when it battles Cape Central. Caruthersville visits New Madrid County Central today.

Brennan Miller was the winning pitcher for Chaffee (2-0). He threw four innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits. He had two strikeouts and walked four.

Breven Yarbro recorded a double and three RBIs for the Red Devils while Austin Copeland added a double and two RBIs.

Phoenix Beal lasted 2/3 of an inning on the mound to be marked with the loss for Advance (1-3). He gave up eight unearned runs on three hits and had one strikeout and walked two batters.

Chaffee returns to the field on Thursday when it hosts two-time defending Class 1 state champion Bell City.

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Jordan Harper blasted a triple and drove in four runs as the Eagles only needed four innings to dispose of the Panthers in their spring-season debut victory.

Grace Sutton lasted a whole game in the circle with three strikeouts and two walked batters to get the win for East Prairie (1-0).

Adalyn Byassee added a double and four more RBIs for the Eagles.

Paige Mills hurled 2 1/3 innings to endure the loss for Meadow Heights (1-1). She allowed seven earned runs on eight hits, walked six and had no strikeouts.

East Prairie will be back in action today when it travels to Puxico, weather dependent.

KENNETT, Mo. -- The transition from playing for a district title in the fall season to now playing for one in the spring season did not go well for the Bulldogs in the five-inning road loss to the Indians.

Kelsi Miller tossed a complete game in the circle to suffer the loss for Portageville (1-1). She allowed eight earned runs, struck out three and walked two.

Madi Parr also pitched a whole game to take the win for Kennett (1-0). She had 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Whitnee Duncan drove in four runs for the Indians, who have typically dominated during the spring season in the area, including two state championships during the first two seasons.

Portageville is scheduled to travel to Scott City today.

STEELE, Mo. -- Kaitlyn Barnes hit a triple to record the only extra-base hit of the day as the Eagles flew in the five-inning victory over the Bulldogs.

Lily Johnson was the winning pitcher for New Madrid County Central (2-0). She lasted a complete game and gave up one earned run with four strikeouts and had no walks. She also drove in two runs at the plate for the Eagles, who also got two RBIs from Tayler Tindle.

Chelsea Guthrie was checked with the pitching loss for South Pemiscot (0-1). She threw two innings and allowed eight runs (two earned) on four hits. She had three strikeouts and walked four.
