Prep roundup: Oran slips past Kennett in 8 innings; Bell City no-hits Braves

KENNETT, Mo. -- The Oran Eagles rallied from a 6-1 deficit after the third inning to defeat Kennett 7-6 in eight innings Friday.

With the game tied at 6-6 in the top of the eighth, Cole Priggel singled off of Kennett's Andrew Spence to score Drew Reischman who had singled earlier in the inning. The run would hold up as Layne Johnson shut down the hosts in the bottom of the inning as Oran improved to 3-0 on the season.

Reischman finished the day 4 for 5, doubling twice in the game. Johnson finished 3 for 3 with a triple while Priggel finished 2 for 5.

Johnson earned the win on the mound, throwing five-and-a-third scoreless innings, while allowing just two hits and striking out eight.

Oran will be back in action Monday when they host Delta.

Chaffee 15, Oak Ridge 1

OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- The Chaffee Red Devils got four hits from Landon Tenkhoff to help topple Oak Ridge for a 15-1 road win Friday.

Tenkhoff finished 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs to lead the 10-hit Red Devil attack. Andrew Brown finished the day with two doubles and three RBIs.

Lane Dunning earned the win on the mound, throwing three hitless innings and allowing no runs while walking five and striking out four.

With the win Chaffee improves to 5-0 and was scheduled to play St. Vincent in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Saturday.

BELL CITY, Mo. -- Bell City's Chase Dembowski threw a no-hitter Friday as the Cubs downed Scott County Central 10-0.

Dembowski allowed only one hit batter to reach base over five innings as he struck out 11 Braves hitters on just 61 pitches as Bell City improved to 5-1 on the season.

Bell City scored 10 runs on 10 hits as Cole Nichols, Logan Yates, Austin Hicks and Jesse Smith all finished with two hits apiece.

Nichols had a double and triple while Hicks finished with two doubles.

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Portageville's Nick Allred threw a two-hit shutout as the Bulldogs rolled past visiting Doniphan 13-0 Friday.

Portageville finished with eight hits as Hunter Gates led the way going 2 for 4 with a triple. Allred helped himself at the plate as well, finishing with a triple and three RBIs. Connor Barham and Kile Adams each drove in two runs apiece.

Allred struck out five and walked four in his five innings of work as Portageville improved to 3-1 on the season and was scheduled to take on Cape Central and Kelly on Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

SOFTBALL

Oran 4, Kennett 1

KENNETT, Mo. (SMNS) -- The Kennett Indians softball team met its match for the first time this season Friday afternoon.

The undefeated Oran Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead and hung on to beat previously unbeaten Kennett 4-1 at Indian Park.

Oran took a 1-0 lead when Kaylee Payne hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning.

The Eagles padded its lead to 3-0 when Leah Cauble hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning.

Kennett scored its only run on a one-out RBI double by No. 9 hitter Emilie Johnson in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Oran added an insurance run when Cauble connected for a two-out RBI double in the top of the seventh inning.

Samantha Welter collected a complete-game victory for Oran in the circle. She allowed just three hits and one earned run in seven innings pitched. Welter struck out two and walked two in a 79-pitch outing.

Payne finished 2 for 3, Cauble went 2 for 4 and Sydney Kerne was 2 for 4 for the Eagles.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Sikeston Bulldogs tennis team fell on the road to Notre Dame 7-2 on Friday afternoon.

Sikeston's Brett Johnson took part in both Sikeston's wins, defeating Garrett Hasselrode 8-6 in singles and teaming with Jarred Sandlin in doubles to defeat Hasselrode and Andrew West 8-5 in doubles.
