SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston tennis team falls to Notre Dame, semifinals set for district softball

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Brett Johnson grabbed a singles win but the Sikeston boys tennis team fell 8-1 to Notre Dame on the road Monday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Sikeston dropped to 0-8 while Notre Dame finished their regular season with a 10-1 record.

Sikeston will close out their regular season today at Dexter before next week's Class 1, District 1 tournament in Sikeston.

SOFTBALL

District 1

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- The semifinals are set for the District 1 spring softball tournament in New Madrid.

Second-seeded NMCC (10-8) defeated No. 7 Delta C7 (5-5) 14-1 in the opening round to set up a semifinal with No. 6 Cooter (7-7) today at 5:30 p.m. Cooter upset third-seeded North Pemiscot (10-4) 10-8.

No. 5 South Pemiscot (5-8) defeated No. 4 Caruthersville (6-10) 21-8 to meet up with top-seeded Portageville (11-7) today at 4 p.m.

District 3

MALDEN, Mo. -- Fifth-seeded Dexter romped past No. 4 Charleston during a 16-1 upset during the first round of the District 3 tournament in Malden, Mo.

The Bearcats (7-12) will take on top-seeded Malden (19-2) today at 4:30 p.m., in a semifinal game. Charleston ended their season with a 5-10 record.

No. 2 Bernie (22-4) took down seventh-seeded Bloomfield (0-17) 14-0 while No. 3 Puxico (9-12) defeated No. 6 Risco (2-9) 16-1. Bernie and Puxico will play today at 6 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
