Partin, Wagoner arrested for counterfeit money distribution

Area businesses are noticing more counterfeit money showing up.

On Saturday, May 6, the Portageville Sonic Drive-Inn reported to the local police they had received counterfeit bills.

When the officers arrived, they obtained a suspect and vehicle description. According to a statement from Portageville Chief Ronnie Adams, during a search of the area, officers located the suspect vehicle at a car wash on U.S. Highway 61. Officers made contact with a white female driver and white male passenger. During the course of the investigation officers obtained a search of the occupants and the vehicle. The search reviled the suspects to be in possession of counterfeit money and the items used in the manufacturing of counterfeit money.

The two were arrested and formal charges were filed by New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson on 40-year-old Corey Partin of Portageville, and 50-year-old Carla Wagoner of Steele, for Forgery Class D Felony. Both Partin and Wagoner are being held on the Pemiscot County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department was contacted to assist in the investigation. During the course of the interview process, investigators learned the suspects also passed counterfeit money at several locations in Pemiscot County.
