SCC's Thomas makes 100 cut, Charleston sending several to final day of state track championship

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Scott County Central's Trinity Thomas qualified for the Class 1 Track & Field state championships in two events, but only made it to the final day in one.

Thomas, a sophomore, ran a 13.26 in the 100-meter dash to finish in the top-8 during the preliminary round on Friday sending her to the championship heat on Saturday.

Thomas missed the cut by two spots in the 200 after a 10th place finish during the prelims.

Also in Class 1 on the boys side, Bell City's Cole Nichols missed the cut in the 100-meter dash, finishing 11th with a time of 11.57. Delta's Tucker Robinson landed in 10th with a throw of 43-2 1/2.

Class 2

Charleston finished with one all-state performance after the first day of the Class 2 state championships and will be sending tons more to Day 2 after a successful preliminary.

Conner Watkins finished eighth in the triple jump giving her an all-state finish. The junior finished with a jump of 33-6.

During prelims, Charleston's Ashli Craig made the top-8 cut in both the 100 and 200. She finished sixth in the 200 with a time of 26.50 and seventh in the 100 with a 12.82.

On the boys side, Q'Nairies Anderson is siting pretty in both the 100 and 200 after finish both with the top qualifying time. Anderson topped the 100 with a 11.05 and the 200 with a 22.36.

Anderson is also part of the 4x200 relay team, which also finished first in prelims. Anderson, Tyrese Tate, Lamar Douglas and Derrick Evans, finished with a time of 1:29.84.

Douglas, Tate, Anderson and Trevaughn Robinson also qualified for the finals in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.14 for fifth place.

Evans qualified for the finals in both hurdle events as well. He finished first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.15 and third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.69.

The finals for both Class 1 & 2 are Saturday. Below are local final and championship qualifying times.
