Man jailed after trying to rob Parma Police Department

PARMA, Mo. -- A man is facing charges after burglarizing the Parma Police Department on Tuesday.

Anthony E. Leisure is charged with second degree burglary and is currently in custody on a $25,000 bond.

According to New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens, deputies responded to the Parma Police Department Tuesday after a report of a burglary. Deputies were told the suspect was in the evidence room.

While officers were en route to the Parma Police Department, the suspect, later identified as Leisure, left the scene and went to a residence on North Cypress Street in Parma.

Deputies interviewed a Parma city employee who said he found Leisure sitting in the evidence room on a table. While processing the crime scene, deputies located a back door that appeared to have been pried open.

Upon further investigation, deputies found the evidence room was ransacked and saw several firearms that were propped against the door and a backpack containing several handguns sitting near the doors to the evidence room.

Deputies found Leisure at a the residence on North Cyprus Street and he was taken into custody.

Leisure was found in possession of a handgun magazine and several drug field testing kits after he was arrested.
