Scott County man arrested after murder-for-hire investigation

EMPHASIS:BENTON, Mo. -- A Chaffee man faces felony charges for allegedly conspiring to commit murder in Scott County.

Samuel W. Lix, 24, of Chaffee is charged with felony first-degree conspiracy to commit murder and felony first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to Sgt. Shawn Griggs with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.

On Thursday, the Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force concluded a joint investigation into a plot to kill a Benton resident, Griggs said.

During the investigation, Lix solicited an undercover state trooper to murder a family member, and he was arrested without incident at his residence in the 400 block of Cook Avenue in Chaffee on Thursday, according to Griggs.

The Patrol was assisted by the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Chaffee Police Department.

Bond was set at $250,000, and Lix remained in the Scott County Jail.
