Hearnes Elementary hosts 'Sweet Treat Week'

Friday, March 2, 2018

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Warren E. Hearnes Elementary School in Charleston hosted its first-ever "Sweet Treats Week" during the last week of January.

"We had an excellent turnout," said Principal Angela Zorbas, "Parents seemed to appreciate the invitation. We received a lot of really positive feedback."

Each grade participated on their own day of the week. Held in the Hearnes Blue Gym, fresh baked cookies and lemonade were provided for each student and parent in attendance.

This kind of event is part of a districtwide effort to involve parents in the education of their child. Zorbas developed Sweet Treats Week and hopes to host another one in the future.

"We really want parents to know they can come and talk to us," Zorbas said. "This is their child's school, and parents play a major role in the education process."

Cookies and lemonade were provided by OPAA! Food Services.

The event was co-sponsored by Hearnes Elementary School, Title I Parent Involvement and OPAA! Food Services.
