CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Arthur Jesse "Art" Whitehead, 74, died Jan. 17, 2017, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Sept. 9, 1942, in Charleston, the son of the late William Carl Whitehead and Lucy Farmer Whitehead, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1967 and 1968. He was employed as operations manager for D. Canale Food Distributors in Memphis, Tenn., until his retirement in 2007.
On Sept. 27, 1964, he married Janice Kellett, who survives of the home in Sikeston.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Ann and Tony Conigliaro of St. Louis; and five brothers, William Carl Whitehead Jr. of Emporia, Va., George Irvin Whitehead of O'Lean, Mo., James F. Whitehead of Wyatt, and Benjamin A. Whitehead and Robert A. Whitehead of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles D. Whitehead, Russell Whitehead, John Whitehead and Richard Whitehead; and three sisters, Carla Jo Knaup, Jennye Wedeking and Nancy Risko.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Ponder Funeral Home.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors. The Rev. Rob Webster, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
