DEXTER, Mo. -- Leonard Edward Palmer, 94, died Aug. 26, 2017.

Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Braggadocio, son of the late Ellie Bedford Palmer and Minnie Arabella Palmer, he was a graduate of Bernie High School Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine in 1957. He returned to his home town in Dexter, where he was a local veterinarian for 25 years. He was a member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge 532 where he had just received his 70-year pin. He attended First United Methodist Church in Dexter for many years and became a member of the Second General Baptist now known as Risen Church in Dexter.

His wife, Martha Mae Day Palmer, preceded him in death.

Survivors include: three children and their spouses, Linda and Jerry Caudle and Pam and Cary Ivins of Dexter and Len and Marty Palmer of Crystal River, Fla.; one sister, Sue Brillhart of Dexter; and two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Imogene Shields; and two grandsons.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Steve Tippen officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
