Dub Groves

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- William Carter "Dub" Groves Jr., 90, formerly of Bertrand, Mo., died Aug. 29, 2017, at his daughter's home in San Antonio.

Born Dec. 25, 1926, in Mississippi County, Mo., son of the late William Carter and Althea Singleton Groves, he was a farmer and served as a deacon at Temple of Faith in Sikeston, Mo., until he moved to Texas in April. Over the years, he served as a deputy sheriff for a brief time, worked in the water department and was the mayor of Bertrand.

On Jan. 12, 1948, he married Martha McClain, who preceded him in death in 1998.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Marie Bowers; two brothers, Billy Junious and Jackie Lee Groves; three sisters, Minnie Lee, Ola Belle and Lucille; and one granddaughter, Stacey Bowers.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Debra Kay and Dennis; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo.

Gravesides services will immediately follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
