SIKESTON -- George W. Gilmore Jr., age 69, died Sept. 26, 2017, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Nov. 23, 1947, at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., to the late George W. Gilmore Sr. and Mildred "Dooley" (DeField) Gilmore.

George was a member of First Christian Church in Sikeston, a graduate of Sikeston High School in 1965; he graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia in 1969 and received his Law Degree from University of Tulsa. He was a member and past president of Missouri Young Democrats, Law Review, Moot Court, a member of Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a Presidents Award winner in 2016.

On Dec. 22, 1993, at Sikeston, he married Geri (Dempster) Gilmore; she survives of the home in Sikeston.

He is also survived by his children, G.W. Gilmore III and Amanda Gilmore both of Advance and Erin Mitchell of Springfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Nita Gilmore of Sikeston; his grandchildren, Tucker Gilmore and Blake Gilmore both of Advance, Hallie Gilmore of Farmington and Anna Mitchell of Springfield, Missouri; and his animals, Lola, Belle and Max.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. David M. Gilmore; and one sister, Suzanne Gilmore.

George and his wife, Geri, were lifelong animal lovers. He was also an avid bird and duck hunter. His companion of many years, Rex, a Golden Retriever, passed away on the same date as his beloved master.

Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. until time of memorial services at noon at Ponder Funeral Home.
