SIKESTON -- Vanita Elizabeth Jaynes, 96, died Oct. 24, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born July 12, 1921, in Bertrand, daughter of the late Robert and Martha Fenimore, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston for 70 years and worked as a sales clerk at Buckner-Ragsdale until she retired in 1978. She also enjoyed playing golf with her friends at the Sikeston Country Club.
On June 24, 1939 in Sikeston, she married Venson (Sheik) Jones who preceded her in death in 1970. On June 3, 1978, she married Kelly Jaynes who preceded her in death in 1982.
Survivors include: two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Michael H. and Kathy Jones of Jackson, Mo., and Stephen B. and Mary Jane Jones of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren, Richard Schuerenberg of Sikeston, Michael C. Jones of Cape Girardeau, Christy Musgraves of New Madrid, Mo., and Allison Causey of New Madrid; one stepgranddaughter, Jamie L. Ellis of Indianapolis; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston with the Rev. Charles E. Buck, pastor of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson, officiating.
