Seven earn 4.0 GPA to lead New Madrid County Central High School Class of 2017

NEW MADRID, Mo. - New Madrid County Central High School honored seven valedictorians at its graduation ceremony on May 9.

The following have distinguished themselves by maintaining a 4.0 GPA for all eight semesters.

Jane Annemarie Brown is the daughter of Donnie and Amy Brown of New Madrid. Brown was in the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Science Olympiad, Academic Team, National Art Honor Society and Renaissance member. She is an active member of the New Madrid Church of Christ. Scholarships that

Brown received are the Missouri State Provost Scholarship, Delta Water Fowl Scholarship, American Legion Brown Twitty Scholarship, Masonic Lodge Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and Honor Graduate. She will attend Missouri State University, majoring in art history/museum studies.

The son of Jonathan and Sherry Givens of Sikeston, Matthew Ryan Givens is the historian for Student Council and National Honor Society, vice president of Beta Club, a member of Future Business Leaders of America, National FFA Organization and Renaissance and the Senior Class secretary. Scholarships he received are Southeast Missouri State University Scholarship Regents Scholarship, SEMO Electric Scholarship, Delta Waterfowl Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and Honor Graduate.

Givens plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in agri business: plant and soil science.

Kaitlyn Breanne Long, who is the daughter of Terry and Lorraine Long of Lilbourn, is a member of Future Business Leaders of America and BETA Club. Scholarships and awards that she received are the University of Missouri-Columbia Mizzou Annual Scholarship Award, Diversity Award, John D. Perry Scholarship, Kenneth Ray Heath Memorial Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and Honor Graduate. Long plans to attend the University of Missouri and major in biochemistry.

Daughter of James Madigan of New Madrid and the late Sherry Madigan, Katherine Elizabeth Madigan was a member of the NMCC Eagle Marching Band, Concert Band, Pop Band, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Student Council and Gold Renaissance. Co-captain of the Academic Team, she is a member of the New Madrid Methodist Church.

Scholarships Madigan received are the Columbia College Dean's Excellence Scholarship, AECI Scholarship, Beth Cross Memorial Scholarship, CTA Scholarship, Hope Exchange Scholarship, Mavis Bellon Scholarship, 1L T Amos Camden Riley Bock Scholarship, Missouri A+ Scholarship, Missouri Bright Flight Award, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and Honor Graduate. Also Madigan received the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award.

She plans to attend Columbia College and major in biology- pre-med track.

Eddie Jawaun Maxwell is the son of Eddie and Shannon Maxwell of Lilbourn. Maxwell has been a member of the NMCC Eagle Band, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Future BusinessLeaders of America, Student Council, Missouri Boys State participant and Mizzou MiniMedical School participant. He is an active member at Life Changers Restoration Ministries in Lilbourn. Scholarships and awards Maxwell received are the VFW Post 7183 Auxiliary Scholarship, Dave's Bestway Scholarship, Hawks Alumni Scholarship, Beth Cross Memorial Scholarship, Travis B. Howard Scholarship, University of Missouri-Columbia Mizzou Annual Scholarship Award, Emma and Carson Chiles Scholarship, Diversity Award, Spiese Scholarship, School of Music Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award andHonor Graduate. The Voice of Democracy first place winner, he plans to attend University of Missouri and major in biochemistry.

The daughter of John and Tonya Palmer of New Madrid, Erica Lee Palmer was the Senior Class president, vice president of Student Council, sergeant of arms of Student Council, secretary of BETA Club and a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Lady Eagles volleyball, Lady Eagle basketball and Renaissance. She is a member of the Lilbourn Church of Christ. Scholarships Palmer received are the Arkansas State University Pride Scholarship, SEMO Electric Scholarship, CTA Scholarship, Robert & Fern Riley Memorial Scholarship, Missouri A+ Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and Honor Graduate. She plans to attend Arkansas State University and major in pre-professional biology.

Son of Allen and Angie Williams of Kewanee, Joshua David Williams was president of BETA Club, Future Business Leader of America and Student Council, member of National Honor Society, Science Olympiad and Gold Renaissance .A volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center and Sikeston Humane Society, Williams was a Missouri Boys State participant and Math Field Day participant. Scholarships that he received are VFW Post 7183 Auxiliary Scholarship, Brown University Scholarship, Mary V. Francis Scholarship, Bank of New Madrid Scholarship, Dr. Pattaropong Scholarship, Delta Waterfowl Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and Honor Graduate. He plans to attend Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and major in neuroscience.
