Red nose fun nets $10,000 to feed SEMO children

SIKESTON -- Southeast Missouri Food Bank announced Nov. 8 it was notified by Feeding America that it was selected to receive $10,000 from Red Nose Day USA.

Red Nose activities aim to end child poverty by raising money and awareness for children in the United States. Funds support the well-being of children including Child Hunger initiatives. It is sponsored by the non-profit organization, Comic Relief, and started in the US in 2015.

Red Nose funds in Southeast Missouri will support A Better Childhood (ABC) Mobile Food Pantries in Pemiscot County through May 31, 2018. Children in Pemiscot County have one of the highest county hunger rates in the US, with 90 percent of the children eligible for the National School Lunch Program. ABC Mobile Food Pantries bring 40 pounds of nutritious food to children in a safe, familiar environment.
