'Red' Harris

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Lloyd "Red" Harris, 85, died Feb. 5, 2017, at the Bloomfield Living Center in Bloomfield.

Born March 28, 1931, in Sturdivant, to the late Manuel Everet Harris and Annie Rona Simmers Harris Scowden, he had lived in Puxico for many years until moving to Advance in 2011. He had worked as a self-employed asphalt contractor and also at Evans Asphalt and was a member of the Fairview Methodist Church near Puxico. A veteran of the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, he received the Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal.

Surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Richie and Sharon Harris of Advance and Schotty and Tracy Harris of Summerville, S.C.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Regina Hale of Puxico and Rhonda and Tony Bostic of McGee; two brothers, Bobby Scowden of Whitewater and Dewayne Scowden of Carthage; two sisters, Rachel Carlton and Shirley McCollough of Advance; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Eddie Hale, three brothers, Dwight and Donald Scowden and Floyd Harris; and two sisters, Margaret White and Barbara Shell.

Graveside services with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with Dale Wiseman of Advance officiating.

Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements.
