SIKESTON - Mary Lou Vangilder, 88, died Feb. 10 2017, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Seattle, Wash., to the late John Ransom and Bessie Gladys Daniels Sherry, she was of the Baptist faith and a cook for the Scott County Central Public Schools for 27 years.

On Jan. 10, 1953, she married James Vangilder, who preceded her in death Sept. 16, 2010.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Payne and Debbie Throop both of Sikeston; three brothers, Allan Sherry of Fayette, Gerald Sherry of Cambria, Ill., and Ronnie Sherry of Collinsville, Ill.; five sisters, Betty Smith and Norma Maddox both of Carbondale, Wanda Withers of Sikeston, Laura Young of Bonne Terre and Peggy Whittom of Fairview Heights, Ill.; two grandchildren, David Payne and Robby Throop; and two great-grandchildren, Devon Payne and Xander Throop.

Visitation will be held at Ponder Funeral Home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Alan Basham, pastor of Cape First of Sikeston, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
