CHARLESTON, Mo. - Guffrie W. Malugen Jr., 76, of Charleston, the son of the late Guffrie Sr. and Gertrude McGee Malugen, was born June 30, 1940, at Caruthersville, and passed away at Life Care Center, Cape Girardeau on May 27, 2017.

He graduated from Potosi High School where he participated in several sports. A journeyman electrician, he was a member of Local One, I. B. E. W. over 45 years. During his working years he was employed by several electrical contractors, and had worked on many large construction projects in Southeast Missouri and the St. Louis area. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially deer and turkey hunting trips with his sons, relatives and close friends. He also loved fishing, camping, golfing and gardening He enjoyed sharing his garden produce with friends and neighbors. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Guffrie was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church, Sikeston Elks Lodge and the Charleston Country Club. He was also a member and officer of the former Charleston Jaycees.

Guffrie and Helen Lucy Richards were united in marriage on Aug. 29, 1959, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Lori Ann Malugen of St. Louis, David Malugen of Herculaneum; and one daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Scott Wiley of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are his "special" granddaughters, Elizabeth, Emily, Abby, Ellie, Lillian Malugen and Caroline Wiley; his "buddy," grandson Chase Wiley. Three brothers survive: James and Carol Malugen, Charleston, Warren and Barbara Malugen, Cape Girardeau, and Wayne and Ginna Malugen, Potosi and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Johnny Malugen, and two sisters, Erma Vaughan and Joan Blair.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
