CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Mississippi County man faces charges after allegedly harassing and threatening a juvenile. Paul M. Patrick, 40, is charged with two counts of second degree assault and harassment motivated by discrimination to frighten or disturb another person. According to a release from Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, deputies received a report from a juvenile who said he was being harassed and threatened by Patrick on July 30. The juvenile had previously dated Patrick's daughter and he was being accused of taking her brother's headphones. Patrick wanted the money for the headphones or for the juvenile to purchase another pair. The juvenile said Patrick was threatening him by texts and using racial slurs toward him. The juvenile then came forward to report the incident because Patrick was following through on his threats. According to the release, Patrick attempted to rear-end a vehicle the juvenile was driving and then pulled alongside him and tried to run him off the road. The juvenile said he was very scared since he had just gotten his driver's license and hadn't had to drive like that before. The juvenile provided another text from Patrick that said he was going to "whoop his (expletive)" while also calling him racial slurs. On Aug. 4 the text messages were verified and a probable cause application for a warrant was submitted. On Tuesday a warrant was issued, and Patrick was arrested on Wednesday. He posted bond set at $25,000 cash and surety and was released.
