Man arrested after foot pursuit in New Madrid subdivision
NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A foot pursuit in a New Madrid subdivision led to a man's arrest Wednesday.
About 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the New Madrid Police Department responded to a house on St. Theresa Street in reference to a disturbance, according to New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson.
"It was reported that several people were arguing in the front yard of the house and one of them had a gun," Higgerson said. "When officers arrived, one man fled on foot and officers chased him through several yards with guns drawn."
The chase circled back around to St. Theresa where the suspect was taken into custody. While retracing the pursuit, route officers found a handgun the man dropped during the pursuit. The gun was later found to be stolen out of Sikeston.
The suspect is being held for possession of a stolen firearm and resisting arrest.
Higgerson, who posted information on the police department's Facebook page, said he normally doesn't comment about current cases.
"Because this occurred in a residential neighborhood during a time of day when kids are out of school and people are getting off work, it caused quite a stir in the neighborhood," Higgerson said "Luckily everyone is safe and everything is back to normal."
