2 Doniphan residents killed, 1 New Madrid man injured in crash

JOHNSON TOWNSHIP, Mo. -- Two Doniphan men were killed and a New Madrid man injured in a single-vehicle crash late Thursday in Ripley County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 10:32 p.m. on Route K near K-5, as the northbound vehicle driven by Hayden F. Samons, 20, of New Madrid ran off the road, struck a mailbox and overturned several times, ejecting passengers, Brandon D. Samons, 16, and Derick M. Samons, 22, of Doniphan.

Derick Samons was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:50 p.m. by Ripley County coroner Michael Jackson and taken to Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Brandon Samons was flown to a Poplar Bluff hospital and transferred to Regional One Health in Memphis, Tenn., where he was pronounced dead at 5:07 a.m. Friday.

Hayden Samons received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Southeast Health of Ripley County in Doniphan.
