Charleston man facing murder charge after fatal crash
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Charleston woman died of injuries following a head-on collision Thursday in Mississippi County that has one in jail on a murder charge.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:55 p.m. on US 62, half a mile west of Charleston, when the westbound vehicle driven by Carter P. Adams, 37, of Charleston crossed the center of the road, striking the eastbound vehicle driven by Ellen M. Gorostiza, 55, of Charleston. Adams' vehicle continued and struck the eastbound vehicle driven by Amber C. Johnson, 26, of Charleston head-on. Adams' vehicle then traveled off the road and struck some trees.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:35 p.m. by Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker and taken to Wiliams Funeral Home in Charleston.
Adams received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was later charged with murder in the second degree - vehicular intoxication and felony driving while intoxicated - habitual. He is currently being held without bond.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in Mississippi County.
