Morehouse man charged with stealing trailer, excavator
SIKESTON -- A Morehouse man has been charged in the stealing of a flatbed trailer and excavator early this month in Scott County.
Steven Culp, 30, is charged with with stealing-$25,000 or more, a class C felony.
According to Sgt. Jon Broom, public information officer for Sikeston DPS, at 2:40 p.m. Jan. 10, officers with Sikeston DPS responded to the 200 block of North West Street in reference to a theft of a black tilt flatbed trailer hauling a mini excavator with a combined value of $45,000. According to the owner, the excavator was stolen on this same day around 10 a.m.
"The trailer was parked on the property inside the fenced area on the north/east side of the property," Broom said. "The gate was open at the time. The tire tracks from the trailer show that the vehicle made a left turn north on to NorthWest after leaving the gate."
On Jan. 19 Sikeston DPS detectives recovered the excavator and trailer from a residence in Mississippi County. The excavator had been repainted and the serial numbers removed.
Culp was arrested for the crime. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Broom encouraged anyone with information regarding criminal activity to contact Sikeston DPS at 573-471-4711 and they could be eligible for a cash reward that leads to an arrest and conviction.
