Kenneth Vowels
SIKESTON — Kenneth Edwin Vowels, age 77, died April 22, 2018, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.
He was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Wyatt, to the late Edwin Cleo and Betty Jo (Barnbrook) Vowels.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, a member of the National Guard Reserves and had been county executive director for the Scott County Farm Service Agency for 48 years before retiring.
Kenneth was married to Janie (Pitman) Vowels; she preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2013.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Richardson.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Susan Vowels of Heber Springs, Ark.; one daughter, Cindy (Vowels) Mayfield Elledge of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Ann (Richardson) McCuiston of Charleston and Carolyn Jo (Vowels) Ponder of Southlake, Texas; and five grandchildren, Clayton Mayfield of Kansas City, Kansas, Matt Mayfield of Wichita and Peyton Vowels, Maddie Vowels and Heidi Vowels all of Heber Springs.
Following Kenneth’s wishes, his body was donated to Washington School of Medicine in St. Louis.

There will be a memorial service held Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jennifer Bell Moxley and the Rev. Jo Vowels Ponder will both officiate. A celebration of his life with family and friends immediately following at the home located at 519 Thornwood in Sikeston.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ponder Funeral Home of Sikeston.
