Contractor at Magnitude 7 Metals injured in fall Monday
MARSTON, Mo. - A roof repair contractor was injured in an accident at a local aluminum smelter.
Donna Rusche with Magnitude 7 Metals reported that at approximately 11:08 a.m. Monday, while working on repairs, a contractor fell from the roof at a construction site at the Magnitude 7 Metals plant at Marston.
Magnitude 7 Metals emergency personnel responded to the incident. Also paramedics and emergency management from New Madrid and county agencies arrived and treated the victim at the plant site.
The injured contractor was then transported by air ambulance to an area hospital, according to Rusche. She added the incident did not involve any Magnitude 7 employees.
“No other injuries or operational impacts have been reported in relation to this incident,” Rusche said. “Our first priority is always the safety of our employees, contractors and the community.”
Construction is currently under way at Magnitude 7 Metals, formerly Noranda Aluminum, as it ramps up to once again serve as a primary aluminum smelter.
At full capacity the Marston smelter can support the production of up to 263,000 metric tons of aluminum per year. It will be one of seven operational aluminum smelters in the United States
