SIKESTON — A Sikeston child and woman were injured after being struck by a trailer early Saturday prior to the annual Cotton Carnival parade.

At 8:40 a.m. Saturday, a pick-up truck pulling a gooseneck trailer was attempting to make a right turn from eastbound East Malone onto Southbound Elm when the trailer went up onto the curb and struck a 7-year-old child seated on the corner waiting for the parade, according to Capt. Austin Henley with Sikeston Department of Public Safety. The trailer also struck a 59-year-old woman who was seated there as well, Henley said.

The child was originally transported to Saint Francis Medical Center for serious injuries and later transferred to a Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis. The woman later sought medical attention for minor injuries, Henley said.
