Two killed in one-car accident Tuesday morning

CHARLESTON, Mo. Two people were killed in a one-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Mississippi County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 7:15 a.m. on Interstate 57 at the 3.2 mile marker when a vehicle driven by Natasha Newton, 26, of Mounds, Ill., ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Upon arrival, the vehicle was located in the tree line on its side in the southbound lanes with three victims trapped inside. JSH Towing was called to the scene to assist with stabilizing and removing the vehicle from the trees.

Natasha Newton along with passenger Joshua Bankson, 35, of Villa Ridge, Ill., were pronounced dead at the scene at 8:40 a.m. Natalia Newton, 1, also of Mounds, was taken by Air Evac to Lebhoneur Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., with serious injuries.

The fatalities are the first and second in 2019 for Troop E.
