Arrest made in leaving the scene incident in Portageville

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — After nearly a month-and-a-half, an arrest has been made in an leaving the scene of an accident incident in Portageville that left a building damaged.

According to Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams, on Nov. 19 at approximately 8 a.m., officers were dispatched to 401 West 12th Street in reference to a vehicle stricking a building and leaving the scene.

Evidence left at the scene yielded a possible vehicle type. Then on Wednesday, investigators obtained information of a possible suspect vehicle location. Officers obtained consent to search a property in the Point Pleasant area and the vehicle was positively identified as being involved in the crash.

Officers located and arrested a 16-year-old white male juvenile. The juvenile suspect was transported the New Madrid County Juvenile Office for questioning and during the course of the interview admitted to being involved in the crash.

The suspect is being charged with felony property damage and felony leaving the scene of an accident.

Agencies assisting in the investigation were the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
