Joseph Layton Jr.
CHARLESTON, Mo. — Joseph W. Layton Jr., 67, died Jan. 18, 2019, in Virginia.
Born Nov. 17, 1951, in Cairo, Ill., son of the late Joseph W. and Patricia Howlett Layton, he graduated from Sikeston High School in 1971 and attended Memphis State University. He also attended Southeast Missouri State University. A veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force, he had worked as salesman.
He was previously married to Debbie Durham of Collierville, Tenn., and later to Mary (Thomas) Layton of Johnston City, Ill.
Other survivors include: his children, Brad Layton and wife Tammy of Waterford, Mich.; Joseph W. “Trey” Layton III and wife Kimberly of Naples, Fla., Jacquelyn “Jackee” (Layton) Collins and husband Brian of Jackson and Melissa “Missy” Layton of Collierville, Seth Layton (LCpl, USMC) stationed in Chesapeake, Va., Rebekah Layton (LCpl, USMC) stationed in Quantico, Va., Adelle (Layton) Atchley and husband Blynn of Riverside, R.I., and Robert Layton of Johnston City; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jon Layton; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.
Graveside services with full military honors will follow at noon Friday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with the Rev. Charles Buck officiating.
