Suspect arrested for Feb. 18 homicide

SIKESTON — A Charleston man faces felony charges for last week’s murder of a Sikeston man.

Cornelius Perkins, 24, of Charleston has been arrested and charged in reference to the Feb. 18 homicide of Marcus Dixon, 24, of Sikeston, according to a news release from Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Perkins is charged with first degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a firearm.

At approximately 11:56 p.m. Feb. 18 Sikeston DPS responded to the area of the 800 block of William Street in reference to a shooting. Dixon was found shot at that location and pronounced dead at the scene.

Perkins is currently being held in custody with no bond.

“Sikeston Department of Public Safety would like to thank all agencies, including the SEMO Major Case Squad that assisted with the investigation,” said Sikeston DPS Director Mike Williams. “The investigation is still ongoing, and additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming.”
