James Keown Sr.
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — James E. Keown Sr., 87, died Feb. 25, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Dec. 28, 1931, in Hell, Mich., son of the late Earl and Thelma Simon Keown, he was a former deputy for both Clay County and Butler County Sheriff’s Departments. He was a former chief of police for Corning and Neelyville Police Departments. A U.S. Army veteran, he was also a member of VFW Rapert-Poyner Post, a Shriner, and a member of Corning Masonic Lodge 719 where he became a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was of the Baptist belief.
On Dec. 23, 1994, he married Deborah Watson, and she survives.
Other survivors include: his children, Robin Spinks, Bryan Keown and James E. Keown Jr.; his stepchildren, Keli (Jerry) Heuring, Richie Blackwell and Laurie Blackwell; brothers, Dallas, Gene, Lyle, Lyman and Johnny Keown; sisters, Joan and Dorene; and several grandchildren, one stepgrandchild and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning, Ark.
Burial will be at Corning Cemetery.
