James Richard (Dick) Twitty
SIKESTON ó†James Richard (Dick) Twitty died on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at age 89.
Dick was born in Kewanee on Dec. 13, 1929, to J.D. and Goldie Twitty. His brothers and sisters, all preceding him in death, were Lynn, Virginia, John, William Mack, Kenneth, Marietta and Jeanette.
Dick was married to Patsy (Tindle) on Feb. 23, 1963, and they were married 55 years until her death on April 22, 2018.
He is survived by Patís brothers and sisters, Raymond, Jerry, T.D., Sue, Lois, Cheryl and Deneo, brother-in-law Lennie, nieces, Margaret, Harriet, and Libby, and nephews, John and Gary.
In addition to his wife, parents, and siblings, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Larry; and one niece, Emily.
Dick served in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) in the early '50s and was a farmer most all his life. He was a Case IH farm implement dealer in Lilbourn and Malden for many years. He was dedicated to serving the citizens of Southeast Missouri and was Mayor of Lilbourn for 20 years, a board member of the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center, Commissioner for the New Madrid Port Authority and received the Silver Beaver award for his many contributions to the Boy Scouts of America.
At Dickís request, his body will be donated to Washington University for medical research.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and the service will be at 11 a.m.
