Illinois woman killed in I-55 accident Monday

SIKESTON — An Illinois woman was killed in a Monday afternoon accident.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, a semi truck, driven by Rene K. Masko, 53, of Indianapolis, Ind., was stopped in the northbound passing lane on Interstate 55 at exit 66 in the Sikeston city limits at 12:54 p.m. As his semi was stopped, a car driven by Teara L. Gully, 35, of East St. Louis, Ill., attempted to avoid the semi and struck the right rear corner of the trailer.

Gully was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:06 p.m. by David Uptmor of Scott County EMS. Masko received minor injuries.

The fatality is the 39th for Troop E in 2019.
