The Gifted Association of Missouri (GAM) acknowledges one gifted student each year from Missouri to receive the Vicky Bennett Distinguished Student Award. Recipients are given a $250.00 scholarship along with a Certificate of Excellence by GAM. Students selected for the award are between grades 3 and 6 and have distinguished themselves in academic achievement, leadership, and/or the arts. Students are nominated by a teacher and the state-wide pool of candidates are then chosen by a panel of teachers of gifted education.

GAM believes a scholarship like the Vicky Bennett Distinguished Student Award inspires children to achieve their fullest potential while highlighting high ability students and drawing attention to the educational needs of our nation's gifted and talented students.

The 2019 recipient is Aden Cox. Aden's teacher, Anne Crader, writes, "It's Aden's well roundedness that sets him apart. Yes, he is involved in school activities and academic teams but it's his community involvement that demonstrates his maturity. Aden is a deep thinker and he will make a difference in the world."
