Pemiscot County hunter located with head injury
CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. ó†A Pemiscot County hunter who had not returned home Saturday was found by authorities after suffering a head injury.
At about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell said his office received information of an overdue hunter who hadnít returned home. Deputies, Caruthersville Police and Missouri Department of Conservation Agent Brian Shelton conducted a ground and river search on Black Island and the Mississippi River north of Caruthersville, the sheriff said.
At about 9:10 p.m., Greenwell said the hunterís boat was located on the shore in the 14 Bend area. Searchers found Michael Hawks Sr., 58, a short distance from his boat on land. He had suffered a severe head injury, Greenwell said.
Searchers placed Hawks in a rescue boat and transported him to the boat club where an ambulance was waiting. He was taken to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti and later transferred to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where remained in serious condition as of Sunday afternoon, according to Greenwell.
