Rumor results in brief lockdown at Portageville schools

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — A rumor of an armed man led to a brief lockdown of Portageville schools.

The Portageville Police Department reported Wednesday that the Portageville School District went into lock down after a suspicious person was reported in the area.

“There was a domestic dispute that took place at an apartment complex near the school. Information was given of a male armed with a handgun,” according to a news release on the Police Department’s Facebook page.

Officers quickly arrived on the scene and located the parties involved. Officers determined the information about the person being armed was false and the school was immediately taken out of lock down.
