Time for a leadership change?

Is it time for a change in BMU and Sikeston’s leadership? We have experienced multiple electric price increases in the last few years. The current price of coal is down 30-40 percent from a couple of years ago. The pollution level generated by the electric plant has been allowed to increase by our president which is unhealthy. Is it time for the city and BMU to start looking at, and planning for converting our existing coal fired electric plant to natural gas? Is the city and BMU saving this coal price savings for the benefit the taxpayers? The city has consistently wasted tax payers dollars on expanding sports facilities and buying a golf course which takes even more tax dollars to maintain. The population of Sikeston is not growing and businesses continue to leave. Sikeston has multiple taxpayer paid for empty buildings and shopping centers. We have a new Sikeston paid for movie theater which is hardly being utilized. We are paying taxes to pay for a “downtown” management team which has had little success at promoting and bringing new business to Sikeston. We have new city of Sikeston direction signs that lead to nowhere. The signs cost a fortune and could have been created and produced by local businesses at far less cost. Sikeston does not need more taxes without new business growth. Do we need new leadership?

Put it in a trash can

Sikeston is a trash haven. The amount of litter in our streets is alarming. I wish the cities of Sikeston and Miner would raise littering fines to at least $200.00 minimum. I have never lived in a place that people throw bottles, cans, plastic bags, and other trash out of their cars routinely. The streets and roadsides are literally covered with unsightly trash. Other cities and states have high littering fines, even in the thousands of dollars. Fines do work. People should be proud of the appearance of their streets and town. Fortunately we do have some good people who pickup unsightly trash almost daily because they are proud of where they live. Put it in a trash can, where it belongs.

Say no to jewelry and food

I don’t know why in the women want to wear all them old necklaces. It’s just ridiculous. And rings and earrings and stuff. It’s crazy. Some people, every time they know move they have to go eat. I know this woman who brings crackers to church in between the Sunday school and the preaching she eats the crackers. I don’t understand that. I don’t think you ought to eat in church except for the Lord’s supper. Maybe I’m wrong. I don’t know.
