Scott County officials working to create coronavirus ordinance

BENTON, Mo. — The Scott County Commission is working with fellow county officials to create an ordinance in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

On Tuesday, commissioners met with various health and emergency county officials to discuss the issue.

“The Commission reviewed different ordinances and orders from Southeast Missouri and are discussing possibilities for how to best protect Scott County residents,” said Prosecuting Attorney Amanda Oesch in a news release. “The Commission anticipates releasing more information within the next few days regarding a specific Scott County response to COVID-19.”

As of Monday, there were six confirmed cases in Scott County, according to the Scott County Health Department.

The Commission, which is comprised of Presiding Commissioner Jim Glueck, First District Commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn and Second District Commissioner Donnie Kiefer, met with Scott County Health Department Administrator Barry Cook, Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury, Scott County Emergency Management Coordinator Trey Hardy, Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Amanda Oesch and North Scott County Ambulance Director Larry Chasteen.
