NEW MADRID, Mo. - Sheltering at home is also an opportunity to learn something new.

The University of Missouri Extension is hosting a 30-minute online lunch and learn series covering topics from nutrition to tai chi to reducing stress. The free classes kicked off Tuesday.

“Our main objective is still to provide evidenced-based educational opportunities to Missourians, but we’ve had to get a little creative,” said Samantha Anderson, county engagement specialist in nutrition and health education for Dunklin, Pemiscot and New Madrid counties.

The interactive 30-minute sessions will be led by a University of Missouri extension nutrition and health specialist from the southeast region of the state. Five other specialists will also be present to answer any questions participants have about the subject matter.

The sessions will take place from noon to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Topics and dates are:

Tuesday, April 28: Navigating Sodium and Salt: Label Claims and Varieties

Thursday, April 30: Type 2 Diabetes Men’s Health

Tuesday, May 5: Tai Chi 101

Thursday, May 7: What’s On Your Shelf: What to Throw Away and What to Keep
