CHARLESTON, Mo. — Barbara Jean George, 76, died June 8, 2020, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Jan. 24, 1944, in Alton, Ill., daughter of Elnora Hollis Summers of Wood River, Ill., and the late Thurman L. Summers, she had lived many years in Charleston where she had been employed with the Head Start Program from 1968 to 1986 and then with the Charleston R-1 Schools until she retired in 2008. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston.

On Nov. 7, 1963, she married Kenneth “Mickey” George Sr., who preceded her in death in December 2007.

In addition to her mother, survivors include: one son, Kenneth M. “Kenny” George, Jr. of Charleston; two brothers, Jim Summers of Cottage Hill, Ill., and Larry Summers of Wood River, Ill.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and father, she was preceded in death by one son, William Lee “Billy” George; and one daughter, Lisa Kirby.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to service time at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston. The Rev. Dave McLucas, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Billy Rose, Danny Harris, Hunter Harris, Robert Carman, Luke Harris and Austyn Humphrey.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Glenn Hillhouse, Charles Tinsley, Jerry Whittington, Eddie Stockman, Steven Smith and Ray Parker.
