Local counties see jump in coronavirus cases; Scott County reports 13 death

The local area saw numerous new positive COVID-19 cases over the weekend and Monday, including an additional death.

The Scott County Health Department reported the county’s 13th death on Monday along with 23 additional positive cases since Friday. That gives the county 214 positive cases with 45 active along with 156 recovered.

Of the new cases, five are between the ages of 20-29, four are between the ages of 50-59, three between the ages of 40-49, 60-69 and over the age of 80 while two are between the ages of 30-39 and one between the age of 70-79 and one under the age of 19.

The New Madrid County Health Department reported 20 additional cases since Friday, giving the county 71 positive cases. Of those, 27 are active with 44 recovered and one death.

The Mississippi County Health Department is reporting 118 positive cases, including 71 in the general population, an increase of six since Friday. Twenty-three cases are currently active in the general population with 48 recovered.

There have been 47 inmates test positive at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston where the Missouri Department of Corrections reports all but one have recovered. Twenty staff members have also tested positive with three cases still active.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported five additional cases over the weekend, giving the county 154 positive cases. Of those, 22 are active while 123 have recovered with nine deaths.

The Dunklin County Health Department reported an increase of nine cases since Friday, giving the county 131 positive cases with 30 active and 98 recovered. There have been three deaths.

The Pemiscot County Health Center reported 20 additional cases over the weekend, with 136 positive cases now in the county. Of those, 24 are active with 106 recovered and six deaths.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 447 new positive cases on Monday with 13 additional deaths. Missouri now has had 27,890 positive cases with 1,083 deaths.

On Monday, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson a new law that ensures that COVID-19 testing, if recommended by a doctor, will be free to patients. The change takes effect immediately.
