Sikeston man arrested for burglary, assaulting deputy

BENTON, Mo. — A Sikeston man is in custody after a string of burglary attempts and assaulting a deputy.

According to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Ulices Becerra, 47, is charged with Class B Felony of Burglary 1st, Class D Felony of Assault 3rd, Class E Felony of Attempted Escape While Under Arrest, Class E Felony of Resisting Arrest and the Class D misdemeanor of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The release states that a Scott County deputy responded to 43 Dolly in Sikeston in reference to a subject trying to steal items from a residence.

When the deputy made contact with Becerra, he was carrying several items in a bag and bystanders were saying the items were stolen. Due to Becerra’s behavior and for the deputy’s safety, Becerra was detained. During the detainment of Becerra, he began to resist and fight the deputy. The deputy radioed for assistance and several officers and deputies responded.

After Becerra was controlled, the investigation found that he entered two homes where he took and staged other items to be taken. One home was occupied by an elderly couple that was unable prevent Becerra from leaving. Becerra was also to be found with multiple drug paraphernalia items on him.

Both the original deputy and Becerra received minor injuries from the resisting arrest assault.

Becerra is currently in Scott County Jail with a $75,000 cash or surety bond.

The Miner Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol both aided the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in the arrest.
