State again sets new single-day record of cases

Missouri once again broke its record for the highest single-day increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 1,637 newly reported. The number broke a record set Wednesday with 1,301 cases.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, part of the rise in daily numbers is because of a backlog in processing COVID-19 test data. But overall, cases are still trending up and the state health department reports seeing a shift in the ages of those diagnosed with COVID-19. The average age is continuing to decline steadily, with 42 currently being the average age of cases that have been reported.

Missouri currently has 37,700 cases. An additional 20 deaths were also reported Thursday, giving the state 1,179.

The Scott County Health Department reported eight new positive cases on Wednesday afternoon and 13 more recoveries. The county currently has 57 active cases with 197 recovered and 13 deaths.

The New Madrid County Health Department reported six new cases on Wednesday, bringing the county’s total to 116 total cases with 47 active and 69 out of quarantine.

The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center reported 12 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, giving the county 483 cases with 44 probables. There have been 341 recoveries, with 183 cases still active.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported two new cases on Wednesday, giving the county 179 total cases. There are 22 active cases with 148 recovered and nine deaths that have been related to COVID-19.

The Dunklin County Health Department reported 12 new cases Thursday morning, giving the county 176 total cases with 50 active and 123 recovered. There have been three deaths related to the coronavirus.

The Pemiscot County Health Center reported nine new cases late Wednesday afternoon, giving the county 173 total cases. Of those, 46 are active, with 121 released from isolation. There are five residents hospitalized with six deaths related to COVID-19 being reported.
