STEELE, Mo. — Laverne Horton Givens, 99, died Sept. 1, 2020.

Born Feb. 26, 1921, in Steele, daughter of the late LL and Annie Johnson Horton, she was a 1939 graduate of East Prairie High School, she had several jobs throughout her life. She spent 24 years working as the secretary at Doyle Elementary school in East Prairie. Later in life she worked for many years at the Mitchell Memorial Library in East Prairie. She was a member of the First Church of God in East Prairie.

On Aug. 31, 1941, she married Arthur Leroy Givens, who preceded her in death on April 11, 1989.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Ann Givens Lingle; and one brother, Alton Horton.

Survivors include: one daughter, Glenda Givens Climer of Memphis, Tennessee; one son-in-law, Charles Lingle of Matthews, Missouri; and six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of God in East Prairie. Her niece and nephew-in-law, Tonya Horton Shupe and Ralph Shupe, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Allan Bryan, Parker Bryan, Mac Bryan, Dylan Lingle, Daniel Dooley and Colten Triplett.
