Essex man charged with multiple sex crimes
NEW MADRID, Mo. - An Essex, Mo., man, charged with multiple sex crimes, is now scheduled to appear in court in New Madrid County.
Shea D. Johnson, 31, is charged with eight counts of statutory sodomy with a person less than 12 years old, five counts of statutory sodomy with a person less than 14 years old, six counts of incest, one count of statutory rape or attempted rape of a person less than 12 years old, one count of statutory rape or attempted rape of a person less than 14 years old, sexual exploitation of a minor, and abuse or neglect of a child. Following the change of venue from Mississippi County to New Madrid County, Johnson is to appear in court at 1 p.m. Oct. 27 before Circuit Judge William Edward Reeves.
According to the probable cause statement, several times between 2018 and 2020, Johnson allegedly had oral sex with the victim and forced the victim to have oral sex with him. In addition it is alleged he had anal sex with the victim and attempted to have vaginal sex.
The victim also told investigators, Johnson filmed her having oral sex with him.
In August, Johnson reportedly “whooped” the victim using a stick, which left bruising on her thighs and legs. The injuries were noticed by a pool employee who photographed them.
In the probable cause statement filed by Justin Kemp with the Missouri State Technical Assistance Team, Kemp noted the victim stated Johnson had threatened to kill her if she told anyone what happened.
Johnson is being held in the Mississippi County Jail with bond set at $500,000 cash only.
