MDMC still seeing effects of COVID-19 surge

While the number of local positive COVID-19 cases was less than those reported in the last several weekends prior, hospitals are still feeling the effects of the recent surge in cases.

On Friday, Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston had treated exactly 300 positive COVID-19 patients to date, according to information provided by Sharon Urhahn, marketing director for Missouri Delta. Currently, the hospital has 22 positive COVID patients and two patients under investigation, or PUI. Also on Friday, the hospital had eight out of its 14 ventilators in use and six COVID beds available at the moment.

Meanwhile, local counties are still seeing a significant number of positive cases, albeit fewer than the last several weeks.

In Scott County, 53 new virus cases were reported since Friday with 49 recoveries. Currently there are 783 active cases in the county with 45 deaths and 2,063 recoveries.

The Stoddard County Health Department reported five deaths since Friday resulting from the coronavirus. The deaths make 52 in the county since March.

There were 54 new virus cases reported since Friday with 22 reported Monday and 32 reported over the weekend. There are 163 active cases in the county with 2,114 recovered.

The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center reported 16 fewer active cases Monday. To date, there are 1,453 active cases with 83 deaths and 4,733 cases resolved.

The number of active cases in Pemiscot County dropped one Monday, leaving the county with 66 cases and 17 hospitalizations. There have been 24 deaths and 1,229 released from isolation.

In Dunklin County the number of active cases increased by nine over the weekend to 103. There has been 18 deaths and 2,169 recoveries.

The Mississippi County and New Madrid County health departments had not reported updated numbers as of Tuesday morning.
