Area counties continue to see deaths from virus

Seven deaths related to COVID-19 were reported by the Scott County Health Department on Friday, the biggest one-day death total in the county since the pandemic began in March.

The deaths, which were reported late Friday afternoon, involved a resident in their 30s, another in their 50s, two in their 60s, one in their 70s and two in their 80s. There has been 59 deaths reported in the county since March.

As of Friday, there were 822 active cases in the county with 2,425 recovered. The health department will not release any updated numbers until after Christmas.

The Mississippi County Health Department reported two deaths on Monday, making 15 deaths since March. The health department also reported 78 new positive cases, with 79 active cases in the community, down from 106.

The Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston saw nine new positive cases but had their active cases drop from 208 to 11.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported an additional death in the county on Monday, making 57 deaths to date. Currently there are 95 active cases with 2,414 recovered.

The 27th death in Pemiscot County related to the virus was reported on Monday, as the county currently has 50 active cases with seven residents hospitalized. There have been 1,349 released from isolation.

The New Madrid County Health Department is reporting 64 active cases with 1,692 out of quarantine. There has been 30 deaths reported.

There are 1,490 active cases currently in Cape Girardeau County with 5,608 recovered and 105 deaths.

In Dunklin County there are 62 active cases with 2,456 recovered and 18 deaths reported.
